Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial structure that our surgeon inserts into a person’s jawbone to support a dental prosthesis. This medical device can also be a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis or it can act as an orthodontic anchor.

The main reason why we implant it is to restore a person’s ability to chew or their appearance. So, we are offering a welcome alternative to dentures or bridgework that doesn’t fit well and an option when a lack of natural teeth roots don’t allow building denture or bridgework tooth replacements.

Why are dental implants necessary?

When you have a missing teeth (and you either cannot or do not want to get dentures, bridges or crowns) dental implants are necessary. In this case, we consider them as a common intervention because they are used as a foundation and structure for the replacement tooth. It is very important to replace a lost tooth.

Did you know that the consequences of removing/losing a tooth and doing nothing can grow into a much larger problem as time goes on? If you lose a tooth and do not replace a drastic change might happen to the overall dynamic of your teeth and mouth causing issues with your dental occlusion. This will affect your life.

How long does it take to get a dental implants in Albania?

We will go through the dental implants procedure in our dental care clinic in Albania. Our dentist is going to thoroughly check the health of your mouth using X-rays and possibly 3D scans. Even when we are very familiar with your mouth, this step is necessary to confirm that the health of your gums and jawbone is sufficient to support an implant, and also to develop a treatment plan that is best for you.

Surgeons will place the titanium implant in your jaw bone, right below the gums. This surgery usually takes about 1-2 hours for each implant being placed. Then, every patient will have to wait about 3 months before the final restoration of the tooth replacement.

After surgery, some people will experience swelling, bruising, or pain depending on how much work our dentist needed to do to install the implant. As mentioned before the healing period is generally around 3 months. The last step, after your implant is healed, is the less invasive procedure of fitting the abutment and crown to the implant. An abutment is a small cushion like shock absorber that is placed between the implant and the permanent crown.
